Green: Ponder it Over
Environmental
sustainability means finding ways to reduce consumption by using recycled materials
and reusing or re-purposing objects. These values can fit in line with holiday
celebrations, making it a time of sustaining traditions and helping the environment.
You can’t just spend time with your family but you can spend it creatively and effectively.
And most especially you can make a way to embrace and to shelter your home, the
environment.
The
purpose of the author is to remind us about being eco-friendly especially during
Yuletide season through simple ways such as cut waste, conserve water and be
green during holiday season. The author stated ideas that can be used
year-round and tips that will help
everyone to make a huge difference for us to
have a better place to live.
The
holidays are time for family and celebration, but these festivities also
negatively impact the environment. Examples, from the millions of decorations
that must be disposed of, to the tons of gift wrappers and increase in energy
usage to keep the colored lights blinking and dancing, the holidays cause a lot
of damage.
Some
of the ways to celebrate holidays without causing damage to the environment
are; use recycled materials for your decorations, use LED Christmas lights, combine
Christmas lights with timers and extension cords to reduce energy; when
shopping avoid going to the mall, don’t buy electronic gadgets and only purchase
what you truly need, use reusable and/or personalized gift-wraps, for noche
buena go to the nearest organic market; and lastly use low-cost, creative and
green holiday bash.
The
most effective for me is to use recycled materials for your decorations, this a
great way because it will test your creativity and celebrate an eco-friendly
Yuletide season. Use LED Christmas lights because they definitely consume less
energy and last longer too. When shopping avoid going to the mall but instead
opt for bazaars, trade fairs, and weekend markets because it provides the best
local products that consider the environment. And lastly, for your noche Buena
shop to the nearest organic market and try to come up GMO-free food so you can
have healthy ingredients and environment-friendly.
For
me, the least effective among the tips given is using reusable and/or
personalized gift-wraps because it isn’t presentable for me. How would you feel
if you receive a gift wrapped from an old and reusable handkerchief?
As
a student, I will use a refillable water bottle and drink tap water instead of
buying bottled water and avoid wasting food, take only as much as you can eat.
In
my personal opinion, the article is well-written because it provides reliable
facts and the ideas are logically presented trough giving examples that was
based on real life. The article showed the essence of protecting our
environment and how is it better to live in a place that every people thinks
green.
